Ashfield Girls’ High School has been selected, as one of only 56 schools, from around the globe, to be a Pathfinder School as part of the Microsoft Partners in Learning Innovative Schools Program. The acceptance letter, from Microsoft, commended the school for having ‘demonstrated a strong school leadership with a proven record of innovation and successful change implementation. Additionally, you have a vision for learning and have already started on the road to reform and improvement’.

As part of our involvement in the programme there are a number of events which are mandatory for us to take part in. Perhaps the most exciting of these was a trip to Cape Town for the Worldwide Innovation Education Forum, 26th – 30th October 2010.

Throughout our week in Cape Town there were so many inspirational and thought provoking moments. Have a look at some of our photographs to see what we got up to.

Over the next 12 months, Ashfield Girls’ High School will work with leading educators and academics in fields relating to innovation and school change via Microsoft's Virtual University training sessions. Additionally, Ashfield teachers will participate in on-going professional dialogue through on-line meetings and forums as well as in face-to-face meetings and record their journey via online blogs.

Throughout the year our school will endeavour to undertake a project with the aim of increasing ICT opportunities in our local community. We hope to be able to improve the access and achievement in ICT of our local primary school partners, jobseekers and help those considering future employment / university placements to be aware of the opportunities available in ICT.
